Facebook posts: Strategy to apply on personal profile and business page

facebook personal
Facebook is still the number one social network. Entrepreneurs first seek to be known with a presence on this network.

Many wonder what to publish on their personal profile and the same for their business page commonly called fan page.

First, there is an important rule to follow and  coming from Facebook : “Promoting your business on your personal profile is forbidden. ” That being said,  many people do not follow this rule. What to remember is that Facebook would be entitled to delete your personal account if they discover business posts on it. Will they really do it?  Nobody knows if they will actually do it but it happened to some people in the past.

What to publish on your Facebook business page?

Anything that has to do with your business, whether it’s tips, testimonials, articles, about your employees, your office, videos, etc

Do not post personal stuff like what you eat or about your family or your travel if it has no connection with your business and what you teach people about. In the long run you will lose people’s engagement.

If people choose to click LIKE on your business page it is because they like the topic of it and wish to learn more before doing business with you or recommend you.

What  to publish on your personal profile?

What ever you want! Of course, avoid posts about your business, or if you really want to make some, do it just once in a while.  Because if people want to know more about your business, they will follow you on your Facebook page.

Post about personal stuff, of course without being too personal 😉 People want to get to know you before they do business with you. So it is a very good way to use your Facebook personal profile to the max.

Talk about your personal activities, your family, your vacation, your way of thinking through quotes or images. People love to see your human side first.

Some people tell me: “But Carele, entrepreneurs do not necessarily want to know about our private life. ”

It can be true, but it depends who. And again, there is private and private! After saying this, there is no good or bad thing to post. Facebook allows us to classify our friends in different files. When you publish, you can select people from different files so they don’t see your post. Or, just make sure you have no business people in your Facebook friends list if this is what you prefer.

Experts opinions regarding Facebook personal profile posts vary a lot. Who is right, who is wrong? I would prefer to ask you this question: What are you the most comfortable with ? Experiment and see what works best for you.

What I do:

Regarding myself, I like to post on my personal profile about who I am and what I do in my life, and make it visible to many entrepreneurs. Since I am doing this, lot more people are following me, even on my business. Yes there are people who certainly removed me from their list, and this is okay. It is impossible to have all the customers in the world and please everyone.

When I post about my family, my future wedding, my vacation, my activities, I often get over 60 Likes and about thirty positive feedback. People like my authentic, passionate and human side.

By using my personal Facebook profile this way, I make sure that people who follow me have the same vision that I have. Isn’t this wonderful?

Keep what is professional for your Facebook business page and what is personal on your personal profile.

  1. Great post! I agree – I keep my biz page strictly with biz related posts, but my personal page shows my personality. Kind of the person behind the biz page. I have found the same as you – likes have increased because they get to know me… and my brand. Thanks for sharing this!

  2. Thank you for clarifying this for us. I always wondered what I should be doing, hoping I was doing it right. It was an easy read, and very informative, thank you!

  3. There is a lot of great information here. I definitely agree that having a personal page on facebook and a business page on facebook should be used differently. You don’t want to mix business with pleasure! 🙂

  4. Great advice! It’s great how you included how to handle your personal profile in addition to your professional page.

  5. Keeping facebook personal and business pages separate is very important if you don’t want to get in trouble with the facebook gods.

  6. Nice that you addressed a question that so many people have: about how much to share about themselves if they’re running a business online. Great job!

  7. I try to post business stuff on my business page but it seems that everyone sees both my personal and business posts. I do not have a problem with that since most of my clients are also friends.
